The present disclosure is now described in greater detail with reference to examples of embodiments. The exemplary embodiments will help to make this disclosure complete and thorough, as well as conveying the full scope of the disclosure. The disclosure can take many forms, and is not limited to those described herein. These embodiments, however, are included so that the disclosure will meet applicable legal requirements. The singular forms “a”, “an” and “the” are used throughout the specification as well as the appended claims to refer to plurals, unless the context clearly dictates that they do not.
Some example embodiments” of the present disclosure are related to a charging device for an aerosol device, as well as systems, methods and apparatuses for providing interactive services with aerosol devices. As an example of a charging accessory device for aerosol delivery devices, the present disclosure may include e-cigarettes. “It should be understood that mechanisms, components and features associated with aerosol delivery devices can be embodied and associated with many different articles.
In this respect, the present disclosure describes aerosol delivery devices which use electrical energy to warm a material (preferably without combusting it to any significant extent) in order to form an inhalable material; these articles are most preferentially sufficiently compact to qualify as ‘hand-held’ devices. devices. The aerosol delivery device can provide all or some of the sensations of smoking a cigar, cigarette or pipe without any significant degree of combustion. Aerosol delivery devices may not produce “smoke” in the sense that aerosol is produced by combustion or pyrolysis, but may instead yield vapors, including vapors contained within visible aerosols, which could be described as being smoke-like, resulting from the volatilization or vapourization of certain components. Aerosol delivery devices can incorporate tobacco or components derived therefrom in highly preferred embodiments.
The “aerosol delivery device” of the current disclosure can also be classified as vapor-producing, smoking, or medicament delivery articles. These articles or devices may be modified to deliver one or more substances in an inhalable state or form (e.g. flavors or pharmaceutical active ingredients). Inhalable substances, for example, can take the form of a gas (a substance in its gas phase when the temperature is lower than the critical point). Inhalable substances may also be in the form an aerosol, which is a suspension consisting of liquid or solid droplets suspended in a gas. To make things simple, we will use the term “aerosol”. As used herein, the term “aerosol” is intended to cover vapors, gasses and aerosols that are suitable for inhalation by humans, whether visible or not, and regardless of whether they have a smoke-like appearance.
In use, aerosol devices of the current disclosure can be subjected many of the same physical actions that an individual uses when using a traditional smoking article (e.g. a cigarette or cigar used for lighting and inhaling the tobacco). The user of an aerosol device of the disclosure may, for example, hold the article in a similar manner to a traditional smoking article. He or she can also draw on the end of the article to inhale the aerosol it produces, and take puffs periodically.
Aerosol delivery devices described in the present disclosure are generally composed of a number components that are contained within an outer shell or body. The outer body can be designed in a variety of ways. It can also vary as to the shape and size of the aerosol device. An elongated shell or body that resembles the shape of a cigar or cigarette can typically be made from a single unitary shell, or it can be divided into two or more pieces. Aerosol delivery devices can, for example, include an elongated body or shell that is substantially tubular and resembles the shape of an ordinary cigarette or cigar. In one embodiment, the entire aerosol delivery system is contained in a single outer shell or body. An aerosol delivery system can also include two or more shells which are separable and joined together. An aerosol delivery system can, for example, have a control body at one end that includes an outer shell or body containing one of more reusable components, such as a rechargeable batteries and other electronics to control the operation of the article, and an outer shell or body at the opposite end, which is removable, and contains a disposable portion, such as a flavor cartridge. The disclosure herein will reveal more specific formats, configurations, and arrangements of components in the single shell unit or multi-piece separable unit.
The background art section in the present disclosure lists representative electronic aerosol devices.
Aerosol Delivery Devices of the Present Disclosure most preferably contain a combination of a heat source or heater (e.g. an electrical resistance heating component or element commonly called an atomizer), and at least one control component. “Aerosol delivery devices of the present disclosure most preferably comprise some combination of a power source (i.e., an electrical power source), at least one control component (e.g. means for actuating, controlling, regulating and ceasing heat generation, such as by controlling electrical current flow from the power source to other components of an article?e.g. a microcontroller), a heater or heat generation component (e.g. an electrical resistance heating element or component commonly referred as an?atomizer? ?e-liquid? ?e?liquid? The aerosol delivery device may also include a mouthend or tip that allows aerosol inhalation by drawing on the device (e.g. a defined airflow path through the article so that the aerosol produced can be withdrawn from the article upon pulling). U.S. Pat. describes exemplary formulations of aerosol precursor materials which may be used in accordance with the present disclosure. Pub. No. No.
The components of the aerosol delivery system can be arranged in different ways. In certain embodiments, an aerosol precursor composition may be located at the end of the article, e.g. within a cartridge that can in some circumstances be replaced and thrown away, or near the mouth of the user to maximize aerosol release. However, other configurations are possible. The heating element is positioned near enough to the aerosol composition to allow the heat to volatilize it (and any flavorants, medications, or other substances that are also provided to a user for delivery) and create an aerosol.
When the heating element warms the aerosol composition precursor, an aerosol in a form that can be inhaled by the consumer is generated, released or formed. The terms released, released, releases or released are interchangeable, so that references to form or generate include forming or generating or forms or generates or formed or generated. In particular, the inhalable substance can be released as a vapor, aerosol or a mixture thereof. The selection of different aerosol device components is also apparent when considering the electronic aerosol devices that are commercially available, like those products that are listed in the background section of this disclosure.
An aerosol device” incorporates a power source, whether it is a battery, or another electrical power source, to supply current sufficient to perform various functions, including resistive heating, powering control systems, powering indicators, etc. Power sources can be in various forms. The power source should be able to quickly heat the heating element to produce aerosol and to power the article for the desired time. The power source should be sized so that it can fit comfortably within the aerosol device, making the aerosol device easy to handle. It is also important that the power source is light enough to not interfere with a pleasant smoking experience.
Figure 1 shows an example of a device that can be used to deliver aerosols. 1 . The aerosol delivery device can consist of a control body and cartridge that are permanently or detachably aligned to form a functional relationship. In FIG. It is understood that other engagement methods may be used, such as press-fit, interference fit or magnetic engagement. In certain embodiments, the cartridge 104 and control body 102 may be described as disposable or reusable. The control body can have a replaceable or rechargeable battery, and it may be used with any type of charging technology. For instance, the control may connect to an electrical outlet (e.g. cigarette lighter socket) and to a computer via a USB cable. In U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. No. This is the entire text of a document filed on March 15, 2013 which has been incorporated by reference herein. In some embodiments, a battery can be charged by combining the aerosol device 100 (or a portion thereof) containing a lithium-ion battery (e.g. the control body 102) and an embodiment of a charging accessory device, as discussed below. As will be understood, embodiments that include a battery can include any type, including, but not limited to, a nickel-zinc, nickel metal hydride, nickel cadmium, lithium-ion polymer, lithium-ion, or other rechargeable batteries. In some embodiments, the cartridge can be a one-time use cartridge as disclosed in U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. No.
In the exemplified example, the control element 106 (e.g. a microcontroller), the flow sensor 108 and the battery 110 can be aligned in a variety of ways. The control body 102 can also include a number of indicators 112 on a distal body end 114. The indicators 112 may be in different numbers, shapes, or even as an opening within the body. In the illustrated embodiment, the control component 106 includes a haptic component 101. The haptic component can be integrated into one or more components in a smoking article to provide vibrations or tactile feedback of the user’s status or use. For example, see the disclosure in U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. No. “19, 2013, which is incorporated by reference herein in its entirety.
An air intake may be located in the outer body of the control 102. Coupler 120 is also included at the proximal end 122 of control body 102. It may extend into the control body projection 124 for electrical connection to an atomizer, or component thereof such as a resistance heating element (described further below), when the cartridge is attached to control body. The air intake 118 may appear to be located in the outer body of the control body, but in another embodiment, the air intake could be in a coupler, as described in U.S. Patent Application Ser. No. No. 15, 2013.
