Methods for the repair of motor vehicle bodies using body line templates

uncategorized

The current invention provides methods for the manufacture of human anatomy line templates, and for the use of those templates to fix the body traces of motor vehicle body panels. The present invention improves body line fix by restoring body traces more exactly and in the portion of time it would typically take. Templates are often used in the industry to reduce and rejuvenate body panels or body panel pieces, but not for repairing body lines. The initial pattern to get a body line template is created of an undamaged, perfectly contoured panel, like a quarter panel, door panel or fender. The body lineup templates act as a guide to renew the original shape of their body line on a damaged body . The templates are also used as a guide to more easily perfect the body traces by manipulating the body filler. In this manner, repair time can be reduced by fifty, or up to seventy-five, percentage.

BACKGROUND

Among the most common repairs in the car repair industry is the repair of damaged body tissues. Body panels are single-piece elements that form the exterior surface of a motor vehicle. Body panels are shaped in distinct and preciseshapes for function, aerodynamics and aesthetics. 1 common characteristic of body panels would be their body lines, that are unique lines or borders. Contemporary motor vehicles are increasingly sharp and complex lines. Damaged body panels have been hammered and pulled torestore their original shape; and/or brand new, custom-cut, panel pieces are welded to the broken panel. Body filler is then applied and sanded to match the damaged area to the surface. Damaged body traces are carefully and manually restored. Theshapes of their borders and management of their traces have been recreated by eye. This is becoming increasingly hard –nearly hopeless –together with the complexity of modern lines. The traditional method is a tough, imprecise, labor-intensive and longprocess. A normal repair could take a single worker up to eight hours.

What is needed therefore is a procedure to improve the simplicity, preciseness and efficacy in the repair of motor vehicle body panels and their associated body lines.
